Understanding Calibration

Watch our video to learn what calibration is and why it’s essential for accurate measurements.

Color Accuracy Explained

Color accuracy refers to how precisely a TV, monitor, or projector reproduces colors compared to their intended or real-world standards. Think of it as the difference between seeing a sunset with vibrant oranges and purples versus a washed-out, grayish version. In technical terms, it’s about matching the exact hues, saturation, and brightness that content creators—like game designers or filmmakers—intended, based on standardized color spaces like sRGB or DCI-P3.

When a display lacks color accuracy, you might see skewed tones (e.g., reds looking pinkish or blues shifting to teal), unnatural contrast, or muted vibrancy, distorting the experience. Calibration corrects this by using specialized tools to measure and adjust the screen’s color output, aligning it with precise benchmarks. This ensures that every shade—from a character’s skin tone to a game’s explosive effects—appears authentic, immersive, and true to the original vision.
